hi jason,

i have written to you recently via Lynda regarding a couple of lessons in your quad & winged rigging courses and i have found both your responses helpful and reassuring (rigging is challenging to learn alone). not to mention your 'makeFKControls' script is a big time-saver. however, i am running into a problem using this script. some of the joint chains are made successfully and some aren't. i don't know what the discrepancy could be, but i have noticed this--unsuccessful chains have a control-name structure like this: parentChain|jointChain_CTRL

as in the case of my screenshot, it says: midLeaves|fuchsia_CTRL
however, with successful chains, it would simply say: toad_CTRL

i hope i'm making sense...or better yet, i hope the screenshot is telling enough. please let me know where you may be confused, i'd be glad to clarify. thanks so much again,

kat

Hi Kat- Thanks very much for the note and kind words. Currently, this script will only work if every joint in your scene has a unique name. Maya uses the full hierarchy name (i.e. grandparent|parent|child) to identify any object in a hierarchy that doesn't have a unique name. In your case, I'm guessing that you have multiple joints named "fuchsia" within separate hierarchies, which is why the UI Control Name appears with the full hierarchy path (and generates an script error). I'll see if I can come up with a way to address this in the next version of this script. Thanks again, Jason
