This script automates the process of backup-saving before rendering. So if Maya crashes or freezes during rendering you still have the latest version of your scene in a file with suffx "_render".
After rendering the backup file gets deleted. So there's no clutter, no useless stuff. Just assign the script to a hotkey and rendering becomes fast and save ;-)
