createNormalMap with a UI. Type or make a button out of cnmWindow, then enter the requisite info in the text fields.
Make sure your UVs are layed out cleanly and within the correct space, otherwise youll get some strange results when trying to reassign the resultant texture.
If you have a more recent version of maya (4.x i think) head to the Rendering/Shading section and grab normalShaderUI.mel.
