you need closestPointOnCurve from maya bonustools 7 8 or 2008 for the script to work. Is this need for the 2017 maya? Bonus tools are not out yet.

Great news on this topic!!! For some time Maya has had a new node closestPointOnCurve that is part of the standard plugin package and need no download or installation. I simply havent been looking at this script for a long time so i dindnt switch to this node.
But now its done and you dont need bonustools or special plugins for the setup to work.
