Combine skin cluster nodes only?

I wonder if you could create a feature to to combine skin clusters of selected objects into a skin cluster node but keep objects separated? When rigging hard surface objects, the UV sometimes overlap when combine them together. I would like to keep the mesh separately but only in one skin cluster node.
