After step 1 you should automatically be in edit poly mode. (seen on image below).
If you are currently not, to go into the edit poly mode, simply select the modifier;
Select your mesh>Go to the modify panel>select the edit poly modifier.
(you only have to do step 1 once, after this your object has the edit poly modifier on it and it does not need to be added again.
just select it in order to use it)
Now press F4 to turn on your wireframe.
-The dots are called vertixes.
-The lines are called edges.
-And the “spaces” in between the edges are polygons.
