This shader might help you in several situations. It was a hard time getting this shader to work and somehow the gradient is shifted to the side a little bit, but for most of the things i hope it is working (not yet tested in production).
you can simulate or fake sss with this shader, use it for color shifts or blendmask or just as a mask for compositing situations.
IMPORTANT:
if you load the shader you have to connect your personal cam instead of the perspective cam.
you can tweake the dark and light parts with the setrange utility.
