I started this project a long long time ago and have worked on it on and off. Ihave no idea how long I ever actually spent on it but probably way too long. It’s always been my experimental piece so a lot of the stuff on here I hadn’t tried before at the time. It took me down some rabbit holes between not having a strong enough computer to complete the sculpt at one point, obsessing over color detail from all angles thinking about maybe a 3D print or animated poster which lead to wanting to attempt a real hair sim (which ended up being a deep deep rabbit hole, but I settled on a sculpt with a little paint over in the final image here). I decided I finally wanted to wrap up this project so I spent a week wrapping it up and putting together renders for this composite.
The models were started in Maya and finished in Zbrush. Textures were started in Photoshop and finished in Zbrush and Cinema 4D Body Paint and are all hand painted. Final renders we created in Maya Mental Ray and composites in Photoshop. The only minor airbrushing is applied to the hair and feathers, and a couple small composite mask bleeds around the rock.

Hello,
I have been working on this portrait for past few months, for the model
i have just used one of my old heads,and changed few things.base
textures were painted in zbrush 3.1 with the help of projection master
and polypainting,later on i used lot of maxon's bodypaint and photoshop
to paint some more details on the textures,so it was back and forth
process between zbrush 3.1 and bodypaint for all texture
maps.displacement and bump maps were extracted from zbrush 3.1.
For rendering I am using Mentalray with imagebased lighting .I am using
MISSS Fast skin shader for the characters skin and Eyes.Eyebrows were
made in maya painteffects .
For the modeling base mesh in Maya, Mudbox and Zbrush for all sculpting
and detailing.Finally the image was composited in Photoshop.

Wolf Spider Editor's Pick
I created this image to experiment with Maya's powerful fur plug in. I wanted to create a image of a wolf spider that almost violated the viewer. I wanted the image to evoke either fear or respect for these creatures. Almost giving the viewer 2 choices, run away, or lay down and cuddle with it....
I borrowed a specimen of a wolf spider from the local Natural History museum, this really helped with understanding/identifying the anatomy and fur patters/colors. The image was modeled in Wings by a fellow modeler, and I performed all lighting/texturing/rigging/posing. The image was rendered using mental ray, and touch up work done in photoshop.11616 Views

This is my latest work I've been working for sometime.
This is probably the first time I made an image starting with color scheme. I saw a photo where a green leaf is put on human arm and I thought that those two colors suit each other so great. So that was basically enough for me to inspire me on this.
This is no one particular. I've used reference of Adriana Karembeu, but I didn't want to make her.
Made with 3dsmax, with the little help of zbrush. Textures are hand painted, ornaments made using various patterns kaleidoscoping them, editing and so on. Hair, eyebrows and eyelashes made using ornatrix. Cloth is simulated.

I created this on a rainy sunday. I was hanging out with my wife, playing around with "simple"images, trying different lighting set-ups to see the effect on the final image. I retouched the image a bit in photoshop after rendering to give it a soft look, and to change the lighting a bit.

Angels Forever Editor's Pick
This model took about a year of my life. It`s because of many work reasons,
some lazines :) and main reason - it became very very complex model, so the
modeling was very hard. And the mapping too, the model is completly hand mapped
in Maya. Very hard too was to work on raptor shapes, to think about them
without any previzs or concepts. But after all, I`m very dissapointed with
final result. I`m not satisfied with final picture. It took so much of my time
and energy, I gave up to redesign everythink from scene to model itself. But,
very important for me, was few things. At first, my pipeline - completly wrong
and the model gave me back every mistake I made. I was very immodest and I
thought that in my personal project, I don`t have to plan. Wrong - lesson
learned. In creation process, I put together so meny different shapes which i
liked "right now", but in final point of view, the machine itself can`t work.
In second case, texturing. It beated me up down to the ground. I never did lot
of texturing in my projects, so it could be seen here. It`s very bad, but I
hope that I learned some lessons for future. And after all - composition. It
was last thinkg I though about and now I see, that it was the main big mistake.
I had to think about it first. In last days, I finished the picture, and I dont
like it so much. But I don`t pity the time spent on raptor model. I learned a
lot in ZBrush, modeling, uv mapping, texturing, rendering, rigging and
composition. And I found a lot of mistake I did in past. I hope, that now I`m
little bit illuminated now. Thanks many peoples from internet and my friends
for advices and help. I promise, next time it will be better.
