    nothing really, but they are freely available so for most noniteractie 3d rendering do get much better performance out of using a suitable dem. As a displacement (theres a trick to this and its to wrap a nurbs plane cllose to the dems values and then diff that heightmap with the dam for a noise on top of that map.) Besides wrapping and mangling a dem creates a very good groundplane for varous cool renders with no more than 1-5 minutes of work.

    EarthSculptor uses 16 bit png files natively to load and save it\'s maps (just check the maps folder), you can manipulate those files in photoshop or whatever tool and preview your changes in EarthSculptor by going to utility->Reload HeightMap. So in reality EarthSculptor is just a DEM editor. Of course if you don\'t want to load the file directly as a DEM into your 3D app I created the ability to export the map as an .obj file, and it will optimize the mesh so it\'s easier to work with. I designed this program to be as open as possible. Explore it further and maybe it will prove useful to you.

It\'s more to either create a new terrain or manipulate existing data. But I guess ignorance is easier than finding out more information?

[quote]But I guess ignorance is easier than finding out more information?[/quote] well to be totally honest your barking up the wrong tree here, the fact that you haven\'t seen a work flow closer to home base doesn\'t mean there isn\'t one. its true a dem might be unimaginative but you do have dems for 3 different planets for every square kilometer to choose form so you will find what you look for no need to generate, you can even mate 2 dems together. I mean would you really use eartsulptor if you allready had the capabilities of it at your hands. And quite frankly if you own any of following, maya, max, XSI, zbrush, mudbox... You do. Now as for the height optimization that you should release as function for the 3d apps separately since thats much more useful.
