Ever since Fay Wray was swept off her feet by the lovesick - and sadly misunderstood - King Kong, special effects have been an integral part of entertainment. When the original movie was made, they were achieved through laborious stop-motion filming techniques. Driven by Hollywood and the insatiable demand for ever more astonishing video games, the digital content creation industry is one of the fastest growing in the world and demand for qualified people is massive.

But getting a start in the business has never been easy. Only a few universities provide the required skill sets and only then as a part of a broad-based three or four year degree course. Two years ago, Dominic Davenport, himself a digital effects professional, set up Escape Studios in London's Notting Hill. The aim was to provide students with the essential skills necessary to break into the world of computer graphics, whether in Film and TV or in games.


Today, Escape is Europe's premier CGI school, with some 70% of those graduates actively seeking work finding jobs in the games or post-production industries. Recent graduates have been employed by companies such as Electronic Arts, Pixar, the BBC and Sony Computer Entertainment.


Training programmes range from short intensive courses for beginners lasting between two and twenty weeks, to bespoke solutions for professional clients. Students benefit from a 'real world' production environment; a combination of Escape's tutors who are professional freelancers - and the very latest in industry-standard hardware and software. This mixing pot of students and professionals training in the same facility generates a truly creative and unique dynamic.
