Is there anything i need to consider when distributing scene files?
Answer:
Yes, make sure that you know whet version the end user is using and that you test on same platform if possible. If you use some external plug-ins make sure the other user has it too.
Easiest way to ensure that the entire thing is submitted as it should is to use Maya project folders and then just archive the entire folder using zip, rar, tar or something similar and send it to him. Just make sure all your external references are contained in the project.
As a extra security consideration it is considered prudent that you save your Maya files in MA, ascii format instead of the default MB, binary one. While it does not protect form potential Maya script viral infestation which is possible, it is a arms out gesture showing you have nothing to hide. But also because it serves many users as a debug facility with which they can try to solve certain file level problems directly with something like sed or awk so it can shorten your reply time and delete some version problem issues.
