DETAILS:

Double Side Texture

Autodesk Maya Texturing

Level: General

Introduction:

There are times when we need to give two different texture to a surface on two different sides, like a page of a book.

In Maya normally we have to set up a shading Network to do a Double side Texture. Its not that complicated (if you are used to working with the Hypershade Nodes) to do it manually every time we need a double side texture, but imagine the time we will be spending on setting up the shading network every time either manually or even by copying the shading network and modifying the same, if we require the shading network on lots of elements in the scene.

So there has to be a better, faster and less complicated way of doing the same.

So a script is developed for this purpose which will simplify your work if you are to Texture an element with two textures on two different sides.

Also you may see version History for more info (if you want)...

Here is how to load the script:

Download and unzip

Place it in the scripts folder:

e.g on windows platform

MyDocumentsmaya2008(-x64)scripts

In the Maya Command Line , Simply type:

dst

and hit enter

Double side Texture window will open up.

You can also make it shelf content.

Drag and drop the script dst with LMB from the command line/script editor to the shelf.

Save it as a MEL shelf type.

Also a shelf has been added this time. You can place the shelf_DST in the shelf folder:

My Documentsmaya2008(-x64)prefsshelves

Also place the DST icon in the icon folder:

My Documentsmaya2008(-x64)prefsicons

Open Maya and locate the DST shelf Tab

Start using dst J

 (It may also be called:

Two Sided Texture

Two Side Texture

Double Sided Texture

Double Sided Shader

Double Side Shader

Another method can be to create a double side shader and then assign the textures to two shaders which are then connected in a layered shader.)

But here we will call it "Double Side Texture" (dst)...
